On March 20 the Ashland University women’s lacrosse team played their third straight game on the road and earned their third straight victory on the road against the Grand Valley State Lakers. The 19-11 victory marks the first time in program history that the Eagles have topped the Lakers in competition.
Making history has become a trend for the Eagles lately, as they shut out their previous two opponents, which marks the first two times in program history the Eagles recorded a shut out.
Sophomore midfielder Tori Wanat was the difference maker for the Eagles netting five goals and adding on three assists for a stellar all-around performance. Wanat had some reinforcements from senior attacker Ashley Fisher who scored four goals and had four assists for a grand total of eight points on the afternoon.
After the first stanza, the Eagles and lakers found themselves even at four goals apiece. The second quarter was dominated by the Eagles as they racked up six goals in the period compared to the Lakers one, then coming out of the halftime break the roles were flipped as the Lakers scored five goals to the Eagles one. It all came down to the final stanza where the Eagles were able to run away with the victory scoring eight goals in the final frame to knock off the Lakers.
Next up for the Eagles is another road contest where they will face off with the Davenport Panthers on March 22 with the opening face-off being set for 12 p.m. in Caledonia, MI.
