On Feb. 27 and 28 the Ashland University softball team was in West Virginia for the UC Invitational. The Eagles would play four games over the two-day stretch playing both Charleston and West Liberty on both days.
On the first day, the Eagles started out with the host team in the Charleston Golden Eagles where Ashland would go onto lose 4-1, finishing with only two hits that both came from senior center fielder Ashley Veldheer. After losing 4-1 in the first game, the Eagles would then look ahead to West Liberty later on in the day and defeat them by the same score that they lost to Charleston, 4-1. In the game against the Hilltoppers, the Eagles got to scoring early, notching two runs in the first inning and never looking back.
On day two of the UC Invitational, the Eagles would follow the same order as day one and take on Charleston in their first matchup. The Eagles would bounce back well against the Golden Eagles, shutting them out 4-0 after losing to them on day one. The Eagles would then look to the Hilltoppers later in the afternoon where they would lose 5-4 against West Liberty once again going 1-1 on the day.
The Eagles are now 3-5 on the young season and look ahead to their trip to Bartow, Florida for The Spring Games starting on Mar. 8 when they face off with Sioux Falls. The Eagles will play 10 games in a five day stretch before returning to Ohio to start conference play.
