On Feb. 14 the Ashland University Women’s basketball team hosted the Hillsdale Chargers on senior day. The Eagles were able to pick up a 12-point victory over the Chargers as they win their second straight game.
The Eagles played a complete team game having three different Eagles finish in double figures in the win. Freshman forward Jenna Slates finished with 18 points and got some help from junior Gia Casalinova and senior Alysa Lopez who finished with 13 and 15 points respectively to help the Eagles improve to 14-9 on the season.
The game was a back-and-forth contest between the Eagles and the Chargers who were neck and neck in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) standings as the Chargers took a one-point lead into the halftime break.
It was a surge in the third quarter from the Eagles that gave them a five-point lead after three quarters. After scoring 18 points in the third quarter the Eagles would tack on 18 more in the fourth to pick up the 65-53 victory.
The Eagle’s climb to a tie for fourth in the G-MAC standings after picking up the victory and look ahead to Feb. 19 when they travel to Malone to face the Pioneers. Tipoff is set for 5:30 from Osborne Hall.
