The Ashland University women’s basketball team went on the road Jan. 24 to face off against the Hillsdale Chargers. The Eagles took a six-game winning streak into this game and an undefeated record in 2026 before falling by one point, 53-52. The Eagles fall to 11-6 overall on the season and 7-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
The Eagles were led by sophomore guard Ashley Mullet who finished with 14 points and three makes from beyond the ark. Mullet got some help off the bench from graduate guard Jenna Badali who scored 11 points off the bench as Mullet and Badali were the only two eagles in double figures.
For the Chargers, it was six different players that scored being led by junior forward Savannah Smith who finished with 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting. Smith also grabbed 12 big rebounds in the chargers ninth win of the season. The only other Charger in double figures was junior guard Annalise Pietrzyk who scored 13 points on an efficient 5-for-7 from the field.
The chargers went up 8-2 early in the first quarter after an 8-0 run which the Eagles then answered with their own 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three. Despite a slow offensive start for the Eagles, they took a 28-26 lead into the halfway point. The Eagles kept the lead going into the final frame as they extended the lead to five points. Late in the fourth, Mullet made one of her three shots from beyond the arc to cut the chargers lead down to one. Freshman forward Jenna Slates was fouled with no time on the clock and had a chance to win the game but missed both of her free throws to give the chargers the one-point victory.
The Eagles will look to get back in the win collum on Jan. 29 when they host the Malone Pioneers inside of Kate’s Gymnasium with tipoff coming at 5:30 pm.
