The Ashland University women’s basketball team won their fifth game in a row on January 15 when they traveled to Tiffin University to face the dragons. The eagles picked up the 73 to 63 win on the road making it their third straight victory of ten or more points.
The eagles continue to be led by freshman forward Jenna Slates who scored her second straight game of twenty plus points finishing with 23 points and grabbing 14 big rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. The bench was also a key piece in the win with contributions from junior forward Katelyn Harabedian and junior guard Gia Casalinova. Harabedian finished with 13 points going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line while Casalinova finished with twelve points shooting 3-for-5 from the field. The team also shot a season high from the charity stripe making 28-of-29 attempts from the line.
The dragons were led by sophomore guard Megan Campbell who scored twenty-two points in thirty-five big minutes. Campbell got some help from sophomore Isabelle Niederst who scored thirteen points shooting 5-for-11 from the field.
This game featured six lead changes, and the eagles had the lead going into the fourth quarter before the dragons cut the lead to just three points with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. It was then three straight baskets from Slates that ballooned the lead up to ten where it would stay until the end.
The eagles will have a week off before returning home to Kates Gymnasium on Jan. 22 when they host the Ursuline Arrows with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
