Real men wear pink

The second annual Pink Fashion Show thrilled Ashland University students again this year as 18 scantily clad men in highly decorated Bras danced, flipped, and turned on their best swagger as they strolled down the cat walk on Mar. 18, helping to raise over $400 for breast cancer.

Amanda Januzzi, senior Colleges Against Cancer member and creator of this popular show, said that the event is a way to combine several needs.

“It brings people together for a common goal and that is to promote awareness and raise funds for breast cancer because it affects everyone in some way,” she said.

To kick off the show, guest speaker Jackie Owens, a seven-year survivor of breast cancer, gave a presentation, which had the audience laughing as she pulled out a bag full of all the bras she has purchased after losing half of her chest, proudly showing off the lace, and multipurpose strap bra.

As the lights dimmed and the music soared each man swung past the edge of the curtain sporting one of several unique combinations of a hot pink, glitter, rhinestones, Christmas lights, ribbon, teddy bears, feathers, and even 4th of July poppers. At the end of his scream and applauded inducing performance, each man shared a breast cancer fact and stepped aside for the next.

Senior Zach Hatton had a particular reason for participating.

He said, “[I want to] stop the war [on breast cancer] on my rack.”

The final and most popular contestant of the Pink Fashion Show was none other than Tuffy himself who was proudly modeling a hot pink bra with fine glitter accents.

To conclude the 2011 Pink Fashion Show, Waquiem Comar was awarded best walk, Nate Cooper best bra and Elliot Rawson and Corbin Blackburn were the overall winners.

Sophomore Jessica Dunkle, next year’s leader of the Pink Fashion Show, says that she is nervous to take over such a successful and popular event. Her goal for next year is to get more people involved and excited to participate.
