Flex up for Fit Fest: Ashland’s 2nd annual Fit Fest looking to be a hit

This year marks the second annual Fit Fest.  The event will be Saturday, April 12 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Rec Center. Put on by the Exercise Science Club, Fit Fest’s main goal is to promote health and wellness throughout campus and the community.

Students and community members should expect a lot of fun and exciting events going on throughout the day. The first 100 people that register for one or more events will receive a free t-shirt. The event is free to anyone and everyone.

At the Rec, there will be a variety of local health vendors promoting their businesses. The day will begin with a 5k walk/run sponsored by the Ashland University Dietetics Association.

The 5k will start at 10 a.m. The race will begin at the arch located at College Avenue and Grant Street near the College of Arts and Sciences building. There will also be a Mr. & Mrs. Fit Competition, Beer Goggle Olympics and Group X classes.

“There is something for everyone,” Fit Fest committee member Olivia Pabisinski said. Pabisinski is also a co-president of the Exercise Science Club.

Pabisinski worked alongside Matt Lioi, who is the events manager for Fit Fest.

“As the event manager…I’ve been the main person to get in contact with about the event as well as run our meetings,” Lioi said. “There have been so many other people that have worked hard with me to help plan the event and find vendors and sponsors which has been the hardest part.”

“I have worked diligently alongside Matt Lioi, the brains of this operation, to increase the awareness of this great event,” Pabisinski said. “Matt has done an amazing job with putting this event together and alongside our advisor, Dr. Beth Patton, has aided in the establishment of a beneficial event for the community of Ashland.”
