Political Landscape of Ashland University

A group of students were asked to fill out a poll to determine how and why they voted. Students were also asked what the most important issue on the ballot was for them. 

When asked where they voted, students responded with either hometown, absentee voting or in Ashland. 39.3% of the students vote in their own hometown, 35.7% of the students participate via absentee voting by mail, 21.4% of the students vote in Ashland and 3.6% of the students did not vote.

The reason for voting was met with several different responses.

10 students said they voted because of their civic duty. 3 students said they voted because it was their right. 3 students said it was so they had a voice. 3 Students said that voting was their way to make a difference. 3 students said they voted for specific policies and candidates. 2 students said they vote because it is a way in which they are able to fix society. 1 student said that they are aware that the elections today may have an impact on the future generations and want to create a better future for those generations. 2 students said that they did not vote.

Of the students that voted, these were the most important issues on the ballot.

6 students said that Governor, Representatives, and Judge elections were the most important issue on the ballot. 4 students said that abortion was the most important issue on the ballot for them. 3 students replied that issue 1, the determination of bail, was an important topic for them. 2 students replied that the most important issue on the ballot for them was conservation and environmental issues. Other things students said were important were taxes, gas prices, assistance for Ukraine and minimum wage. 4 students said that many issues or all of the issues were important to them.
