On May 5, Ashland University’s track and field program competed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Both the men’s and women’s teams placed second in the team standings. The women scored 214 points, which was just behind Hillsdale College’s 219.5 points. The men fell to the Tiffin Dragons, 186.66 to 163.
Despite them being young, three freshman Eagles helped to lead their team to success over the weekend.
Winning Men’s Co-Freshman of the meet was Ed Boehmer and Jon Lutz. For the Women’s Co-Freshman of the meet, it was Reese Landis for the Eagles.
The following Eagles won gold and earned points for their team:
- Redshirt junior Hailey Rios won the women’s long-jump, jumping 6.07 meters.
- The women’s 4×100-meter relay quartet of redshirt sophomores Medgine Wojton and Brianna Chenevey, freshman Alexis Wims and Rios with a time of 45.37.
- Junior Colton Thress in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.29.
- Lutz in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.66.
- Junior Dominick Brister in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.48.
- Senior Jade Avance in the women’s 800-meter run.
- Graduate student Brayden Jackson in the men’s pole vault, vaulting 5.32 meters.
The following Eagles earned silver:
- Redshirt junior Molly Winner in the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 54.88 meters. Also Winner in the women’s shot put with a top launch of 15.61 meters.
- Landis in the women’s 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:20.85.
- Brister in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.09.
- Freshman Vivian Walter in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.27.
- The men’s 4×100-meter relay quartet of sophomore Trinity Keith, Brister, junior Liam Mann and senior Joe Wahl with a time of 40.57.
- Chenevey, sophomore Olivia Saylor, junior Jordan Rosales and Avance in the women’s 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.67.
- Junior Kara Fields in the heptathlon with 4,502 points.
- Freshman Caleb Hague in the decathlon with 6,062 points.
- Junior Abigail Hartzler in the women’s high jump, jumping 1.66 meters.
- Chenevey in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.29.
- Sophomore Miranda Stone in the women’s discus with a throw of 46.29 meters.
- Landis in the women’s 5,000 meter run with a time of 17.13.77.
The following Eagles placed third in their respective events:
- Boehmer in the decathlon with 6,000 points.
- Freshman Rilynn Jones in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.69.
- Junior Alex Eggleston, Brister, redshirt junior Daylen Madison and junior Colton Thress in the men’s 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:15.71.
- Junior Molly Coleman in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:18.79.
- Saylor in the women’s 400-meter run with a time of 55.57.
- Sophomore Wes Taylor in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:14.23.
- Redshirt junior Leslie Pollock in the women’s hammer throw with a top heave of 59.64 meters.
- Sophomore Carter Smith in the men’s pole vault, vaulting 5.12 meters.
- Redshirt sophomore Jennifer Patrick in the women’s discus with a throw of 45.11 meters.
- Redshirt sophomore Hayden Valenti in the men’s hammer throw with a heave of 59.64 meters.
- Junior Sidney Sheppert in the women’s triple jump with a jump of 11.65 meters.
- Redshirt sophomore Roosevelt Zeigler in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.48.
- Graduate student Hope Sievert in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.17.
- Senior Abby Wheeler in the women’s high jump, jumping 1.63 meters.
