From March 23 to 29, the Ashland University Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) competed in Greek Week.
There was an array of events going on every day where students could sign up to win points for their sorority or fraternity.
The events were window painting, Family Feud, Just Dance, Battleship, tug-of-war, capture the flag and others.
Director of FSL, Gabriel Del Valle said, “It is one of the best ways that the community comes together and really showcase a lot of fun that we have in fraternity and sorority life.”

During the events, there were also penny wars for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital; each chapter had its own jar, and it was their job to fill it with pennies or dollars for positive points. Silver coins were considered negative points if added to the jar.
For this Greek Week, Just Dance was added as a new competition. On Saturday, March 28, FSL also held a tug-of-war with a mud pit.
“I got the idea from a lot of the old pictures in the student center. I think it was from like 1988, and you can see the mud pit for Greek Week, so we are bringing it back this year,” said Del Valle.
On Sunday, March 29, during Greek Honors, sororities and fraternities received the awards for academics, philanthropy and community, risk management, chapter operations and campus involvement.
“My favorite thing is to see the spirit teams, the multiple different chapters on one team together, seeing them bond and get to know each other better throughout the week and cheer each other on,” said Vice President of Programming for Panhellenic Council Allyssa Culp.
This year’s winners of Greek Week were Theta Phi Alpha and Phi Kappa Psi.

“It’s the unity. We are paired up with another fraternity and sorority, and we get to just show that we are not just single chapters, we are a whole community as well,” said Vice President of Standards for Interfraternity Council Hayden Liff.
