Ashland University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams continued their strong start to the season Friday night, securing their second straight home victories with dominant performances over Malone at Messerly Natatorium. The AU men posted a 193-40 win, while the women earned a 189-45 victory, with ease.
Junior Payton O’Toole led the women with two individual wins, taking the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.04 and the 100 freestyle in 54.39 seconds. Senior Nick Girz led the men’s side with wins in the 200 freestyle (1:47.75) and 100 breaststroke (59.80). Meanwhile, on the boards, juniors Riley Hunt and Joey Lenczyk swept the 1 meter and 3-meter diving events, contributing points for the Eagles.
More first place finishes came from sophomore Brooke Patel and senior Jason Basile in the 1650 freestyle, senior Colleen Cox and senior Robin Falk in the 50 freestyle, and junior Yasmim Tomita and junior Colin Pham in the 100 backstroke. Freshman Katelyn Claugus won the women’s 500 freestyle, while junior Grant Brown took the men’s 500 freestyle.
Ashland’s relay teams also impressed, with the women’s 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays and the men’s 200 freestyle relay all taking first place.
The Eagles will return to Messerly Natatorium on Nov. 7 to host Baldwin Wallace at 6 p.m., aiming to extend their home dominance and continue building strong wins early in the season
