The Ashland University women’s basketball team has continued to stay atop the Division II standings as the No. 1 team in the country. The team, who have won 17 straight games, continued excellence against the Lake Erie College Storm on the road.

Throughout their last four contests, the Eagles have recorded over 90 points while holding teams to no higher than 68 points and that would not change against the Storm.

In the first quarter of play, Eagle forward Hayley Smith dominated recording 12 points inside the paint to help lead the Eagles to a 23-20 lead.

In the second quarter, the game trend remained the same as the Eagles outscored the Storm, 21-18, once again a three-point deficit.

They would go into halftime up by six, 44-38. Alongside Smith, forwards Zoe Miller and Annie Roshak held their own offensively in the paint. The Storm was unable to find any defensive game plan that would limit the big three down low.

In the second half, the Eagles ran away with the game outscoring the Storm 54-26 for a 98-64 victory.

In the win, Miller finished with 18 points, Smith finished with 16, guard Macy Spielman finished with 15 and veterans Hallie Heidemann and Annie Roshak finished with 12 a piece.

The Eagles as a team forced 16 turnovers and held the Storm to just 38 percent from the field and 18 percent from beyond the arc. For the Eagles, they shot a consistent 59 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc.

Now with a 17-0 record, they look to take on conference foe Walsh University on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 P.M. on the road.
