On Tuesday, April 21, Slippery Rock University Rock came to Ashland, Ohio for a one game contest against the Ashland University Eagles. In the contest, The Rock got the win 9-6 in nine innings.
Throughout the game, Ashland looked pretty solid after six innings. The score then sat 6-3 Eagles. However, this is when Ashland made a pitching change and things went south. In the seventh and eighth innings combined, Ashland allowed six runs to score, and would not touch home plate themselves the rest of the evening.
For the Eagles, it was a struggle some day for the guys on the mound. In total, Ashland played six different pitchers throughout the contest. Freshman Brody Saunders started off the game pitching the first four innings where he finished with 2 hits allowed, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts (SOs).
At the plate, Ashland did not struggle as much. Senior Ryan Shimek, who was moved out to left field for the game, batted second and led the Eagle hitters with 3 hits. Shimek also tacked on an RBI. Other Eagles to impress were graduate student Chris Franks (2 hits, 1 RBI), and redshirt freshman Drew Stevens (2 hits).
Ashland now falls to 28-14 overall and snap their seven game win streak. They remain at 16-8 within the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). With two weekend series’ left in the 2026 regular season, the team will travel to Northwood on Apr. 25th and 26th for doubleheaders that begin at 12 p.m.
