On Feb. 17, the Ashland University Student Senate held its weekly meeting to discuss issues on campus, but more importantly appoint three new members to the board.
All three new members were appointed that being Adison Viers to Public Relations, Kylee Parrish to Secretary and Parliamentarian going to Catherine Wright.
The meeting, however, started with the Director of Infrastructure and Security at Ashland University, Ben Schwartz, talking to the board about recent technology upgrades. With that being ID card swipes on student’s phones.
The system is stated to be brand new, which allows students to use their ID card like a normal psychical one, but on their cellular device. The new system does not mean the end of physical IDs with Schwartz and Vice President of Student Affairs and Auxiliary Services, Rob Pool, stating they do not think we are ever going to get rid of cards.
Another topic that was discussed was Residential Assistants potentially fining students for having possessions out in the hallway. The reason why is due to the Amstutz Hall fire with items getting in the way of firefighters.
It is unclear, however, if decorations such as doormats will be allowed, but an email with details will be sent out to Ashland University students beforehand.
The next time the Student Senate meets will be on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9:30 p.m., on the second floor of the student center.
