Jordan Edwards has been with the Ashland Eagles men’s basketball team since the 2023-24 season. However, his story has been one for the history books.
The plan coming out of Olentangy Orange High School was for Edwards to redshirt his freshman season. This would allow him to sit and learn from legendary Eagle point guard Brandon Haraway. However, two games into the season, Haraway went down with a career ending injury.
Head Coach of the Eagles John Ellenwood knew he had to change plans. So, he looked to the true freshman Jordan Edwards to make his collegiate debut. “We talked to Jordan and we were like, you know, we are pretty short on point guard now. We wanted to take him off of redshirt and he did that and was able to play” Ellenwood noted.
Edwards was able to come in and provide about 16 minutes per game for Ashland over the course of 10 games. He averaged 5.8 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.

All looked well for the freshman, averaging 5.8 points, 2.7 assists, and 16 minutes per game. However, Jan. 6, 2024, rolled around. Ashland was on the road for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup at Kentucky Wesleyan. “I played about 10 games, and then at Kentucky Wesleyan I ended up tearing my ACL.” Edwards said.
“And then my sophomore year, by the time I got cleared in December, I didn‘t feel like I was 100 percent to come back.” Edwards added. After the Eagles finished with an average 15-13 year, Edwards knew his time to shine was on the horizon.
After another offseason, the 2025-26 season was finally here, and it was time for Jordan Edwards to make his official freshman season debut. Redshirt junior wing Cooper Davis, a close teammate to Edwards, added what he meant to the team, “Jordan’s been awesome, you know, the whole year. His pass first dynamic and just his intensity. It’s everything you want in a point guard, and I’m so grateful to be able to play with him this year.”
With two games left to go in the regular season, Edwards has started in all 26 games for Ashland this season. He also averages 9.7 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Edwards currently is also on pace for a record setting career with Ashland’s men’s basketball program. Currently, Edwards’s average of 5.2 assists is good for 18th in all Division II men’s basketball across the nation. Additionally, his total assists in his career is currently at 162. With 135 this season, Edwards is projected to finish his Eagle career with over 600 assists. That number if achieved would put Edwards in the top 3 in program history.
Edwards also added “It’s just been an awesome experience. You know, just grateful to be here now.”
Looking at the future, Davis mentioned how the team’s vision is the same, “I think we are all aligned in the same common goals, and that’s winning a G-MAC championship this year. We are all very hungry, you can see it from top to bottom.”

Coach Ellenwood finished by giving praise to Edwards in regard to his journey, “I just think he has really matured and we are proud. I mean, going through what he did, where you went from one of the best players in the state of Ohio to dealing with an injury for a year and a half then coming back, That says a lot about somebody when they come back, and you know, they are successful”
