Ever wonder what’s happening in Ashland County and not know where to look?
Mary Kettering, mother of two and founder of the Go To Girl of Ashland, had the same problem.
“A few years ago, I was thinking about joining the gym and I wanted to find something that would work with my schedule. I was looking up all the different gyms on their websites trying to find their class schedules,” she said. “It was a pain, and I was like man it would be really cool if there was 1 website that could pull all the gyms together in one place. At the end of it, like 45 minutes, I found out nothing worked with my schedule, and I should have just gone for a walk. That idea just kind of stayed with me and shifted to finding things to do in Ashland because I have a busy family. There isn’t time to go look up everything in multiple places when we have a surprise night free.”
Launched in May of 2024, the Go to Girl of Ashland was formed to make, “a centralized place where people from our community could find out what’s happening and where.”
At first, Kettering did everything by herself free of charge. This included finding and manually adding the events to the website Calander.
“I consistently spend four or five hours working on website stuff alone,” she said.
Folks can go on the website to see what’s happening that month and make plans.
On top of that, she also makes two weekly newsletters. Included in the newsletters, readers will find different sections highlighting events for various ages. These events include but are not limited to Live Music, Date Nights, Community and Family Events.
She then introduced a paid subscription plan for $5 a month where members would get exclusive inside looks at some things going on in Ashland County.
As time has gone by, Kettering has realized this is not an easy task, “It’s funny because in my desire to save time for other people, I’ve made it my job.”
Like most people at the beginning of a new year, Kettering has decided that she will be implementing some changes to Go To Girl of Ashland.

Unlike in the past where the $5 a month subscription was optional, starting today anyone interested in receiving the newsletters will have to join the paid monthly subscription plan.
Members will receive the newsletters twice a week as well as a look ahead into each month and seasonal insights. Looking ahead, Kettering is also expecting to add exclusive specials with local businesses.
“I love helping people and making things easier for others, but this is a very time-consuming process,” Kettering said. “And for less than the cost of your favorite coffee you can have all the events at your fingertips.”
