The Great Midwest Athletic Conference held the semifinal round for women’s soccer. This semifinal round was between the defending G-MAC champion Ashland University Eagles and the Northwood University Timberwolves.
The last time these two teams played in the G-MAC Tournament was the 2024 championship game. The Eagles were the ones to claim the title over the Timberwolves with a 3-1 victory.
During this game, it was a duel between the goaltenders. It was fifth-year senior Jaya Daniels in the net for Ashland who stopped the two shots she faced. On the other end, junior Lindsay Jacobs stopped all nine shots she faced for the Timberwolves.
Neither team would be able to find the score sheet during the full 90 minutes, and no team would be able to score in extra time. Total shot attempts in the game were in favor of the Eagles, 24-5.
With the score still being tied, this semifinal game went into penalty kicks. And the penalty kicks would carry over the goaltending masterpiece from gameplay. It would go a full 13 rounds.
It would be junior defender Adi Turnbaugh to get the first ball behind a goaltender and give a chance for an Eagle victory. And the Eagles would prevail with a save from Jacobs, sending them back to the championship game.
Ashland will now play their rivals in the Findlay Oilers, after their 1-0 victory over the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. This championship game is set to be played Nov. 15th on Ferguson Field at 5 p.m.
