On Wednesday, Jan. 1, the Archer Library held an open house to showcase its exciting new additions to students, staff and the community.
Last spring, the Lyceum Café, Writing and Communication Center, and Information Technology help desk, were moved into the library’s newly renovated first floor.
Bob and Jan Archer, for whom the library is honored, began the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony that celebrated the relocation of the WCC.
The open house highlighted the library’s resources and brought awareness to their newest additions.
Attendees were given Archer Library Passports that had squares representing nine different services the library offered. The goal was to have guests visit all the stations in order to be entered into a drawing for AU Campus Store giveaways and a $100 student scholarship.
The WCC also got in on the fun with a dart game and a drawing for t-shirts and a $50 gift card.
Members of the AU Jazz Orchestra were on hand to enrich the atmosphere as guests talked and traveled to the different service stations.
A free greenscreen photo booth and cupcakes were also available in the lobby.
Upon being asked about if these new departments have contributed to the library’s growing popularity, Library Director Patricia Frank believes it has become the central building at AU.
“We’re the hub, I feel, for the campus now and we just see that increasing in the future,” said Frank.
