The Ashland University men’s basketball team raced out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back, defeating Wilberforce 92-57 at Kates Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. 

Sophomore guard Nick Bapst scored a game-high 17 points to go along with one rebound and two assists to pace the Eagles (3-1).

Other top contributions for AU came from senior guard Adrian Cook (13 points, two rebounds, four assists, steal); senior guard Boo Osborne (11 points, three rebounds, assist, block); junior forward Marsalis Hamilton (seven points, eight rebounds, seven assists, steal, block); sophomore guard Ben Haraway (nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, block); and sophomore forward Phil Frentsos (eight points, six rebounds, three assists, steal).

Senior forward Michael Cain scored his first five collegiate points and chipped in two rebounds in three minutes of action.

Ashland had 26 assists in the game, which is its highest single-game assist total since Nov. 15, 2007 (27 against Tiffin). The Eagles also outrebounded the Bulldogs (4-3) 48-35 and turned 18 Wilberforce turnovers into 27 points.

Next up for Ashland is another home game on Nov. 22 against California (Pa.).
