The Ashland University men’s basketball team opened up its 2016-17 season with games against Indianapolis (Nov. 12) and Southern Indiana (Nov. 13) in the Indianapolis Tournament.

AU used a 30-12 run in the second half to propel them to a 70-64 victory over Indy. 

The Eagles were led offensively by junior center Teddy Metzen (15 points), sophomore point guard Ben Haraway (14 points), senior guard Adrian Cook (12 points), senior guard Boo Osborne (10 points) and junior forward Marsalis Hamilton (career-high 16 rebounds, 7 points). 

Ashland led 15-10 in the first half before the Greyhounds went on an 18-4 run to go up 28-19.

AU ended the half on a 12-2 run and went into the break leading 31-30.

In the second half, Indianapolis turned a 41-40 lead into a 52-40 advantage.

The Eagles responded with a 30-12 run to end the game.

AU held Indy to 39.1-percent shooting from the field and out-rebounded the Greyhounds 40-31. 

On the second and final day of the Indianapolis Tournament, Ashland was defeated 74-62 by Southern Indiana.

The Eagles took a 36-27 lead into halftime and led 49-41 with 12:29 remaining in the second half before USI scored 16 straight points. 

AU cut the lead to 59-55 with 4:17 left in the game, but they could never get closer. 

Ashland was led on offense by sophomore point guard Ben Haraway (15 points), junior center Teddy Metzgen (11 points, 6 rebounds) and senior guard Adrian Cook (10 points). 

The Eagles shot 45.3-percent from the field but had 18 turnovers. 

Next up for AU is a road game at Shawnee State on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
