How you can bear through seven more weeks

By Melanie Sudar

One more day. That’s the only thing keeping you away from Fall Break. Four full days of freedom. No classes; sleeping in; not having to be on campus. Anyone else excited?

Fall Break is exciting. Not only because it means two full days off of classes, but also that the semester is just about half way over.

Because we’ve reached the halfway point, I know it can be difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel that is marked by Christmas Break. I’ve compiled a small list of advice to help get you through the rest of the semester. Hopefully it will be as beneficial to you as it has been to me.

1. Set Goals.

This piece of advice can apply to any time in the semester, really. But since you have about seven weeks of school left, sit down over Fall Break and make a list of the things you want to accomplish by December. If you have a list from the beginning of the semester, review it. What have you finished? What still needs to get done?

2. Stay Positive.

I know at this point you may just want to give up. But you’re almost there! Seven weeks can either seem like a long amount of time, or a short amount of time – it all depends on how you look at it.

3. Be realistic.

Think about how awesome it will feel once this semester is over, and you’ve powered through it. Give the rest of the semester the same amount of work you gave the first half. If you shut down now, the next seven weeks will drag on.

Refer back to your goals list. Did you put realistic goals that can actually be accomplished in eight weeks? But at the same time, don’t sell yourself short.

4. Take it one day at a time.

Take each day as it comes. There’s still half a semester left to enjoy; don’t think about the end of the semester to come. Tackle each day as it happens.

5. Have something to look forward to.

Even though you should take one day at a time, it can also be super helpful to have something to look forward to in order to keep your motivation going. Christmas is but a few months away, and that’s always exciting.

It can be difficult to find motivation for the rest of the semester, but hopefully if you keep these tips at hand, it will be easier to survive.
