The holiday season just ended, and you finally settle down thinking that buying gifts is over, and then suddenly Valentine’s Day creeps around.
What do I get? How much do I spend? Fear not! We are here to give you some quick and cheap ideas on what to get your significant other for Valentine’s Day.
What to get your boyfriend
Girls, listen up. I did hefty research, by asking the guys in my major and did an Instagram poll on what a boy would want from their significant other, and the most given answer was “for my girlfriend to be happy”. So, do NOT overthink this gift!
Another answer I was given a lot was “Valentine’s Day is a girl holiday, we do not usually get gifts.” Therefore, getting them a gift is already one step ahead of where they think you are!
#1. Legos!
On Instagram, this was the top response. My boyfriend loves Star Wars, so I would try and get him something Star Wars related! If your boyfriend has something he specifically likes, I would try and get something related to that topic, but if not, any type of Legos will work!
#2. Sports Related Plushie
I found these on amazon and they were under $10. They’re little crocheted plushies that say something sweet about him! I personally got a football one (surprise Nick!) and it was cheap and something cute to give him on that day! There are other sports though, so do not fret, you can find others.
#3. Snack basket
I actually did this for Nick’s birthday, and he loved it. Just get a list of his favorite snacks together and head to the store and grab them! To spice it up, you could put a note in it as well. Which leads me to my next point…
#4. Handwritten note
They want these more than you think they do and it takes no time at all. Just a quick, one-page note about what you love about them, what you’re excited for with them, anything like that, and they will read it a thousand times.
#5. Initial or handmade bracelet
These are cheap on amazon too. You can even get matching ones! You get a bracelet with your initials on it or make him a bracelet for him. “If you make him a bracelet, he will never take it off,” says Nick, and I trust his judgement (I am currently running to amazon to add bracelets to my cart).
Like I said at the beginning, do not overthink it! He is going to be so happy to spend the day with you and the fact that you got him anything will mean more than you think!
What to get your girlfriend
Fellas, one holiday is done, and now we are onto the next one. Well, this holiday might mean more to girls than we may think. It may be your first Valetine’s Day, or it might be your third, either way this gift giving season has an easy solution.
Listen and show effort. It is that simple, but let’s take a bigger look at the game plan to have a successful Valetine’s Day, and one she will never forget!
#1. FLOWERS!!!!!
No, it is not a mistake putting it in all caps. Getting her flowers will make her day, not just on Valetine’s Day, but in any day in general. Don’t worry about the color if you are unsure what her favorite flower is, getting any type of flower will mean something special to her. You get her flowers; I guarantee you will make her day.
#2. Chocolate
You might think it is a cliche, but I asked a lot of my friends what they want their boyfriend/valentine to get them and besides flowers and chocolate was repeated often. You can get assorted chocolate or regular candy chocolate. Either way you cannot go wrong with a sweet treat for her.
#3. Homemade gifts
This is your time to show your girl your creative side. You can make her a scrapbook with pictures of the two of you, with stickers and other decorations. Or you can just print photos and put them into frames. Another idea is writing her a handwritten note. Don’t go with a simple card, take out a pen and paper, and write from the heart.
#4. Gifts that show you listen
In my opinion, this is how you can win Valetine’s Day. Your girlfriend or Valetine might for months, be hinting at stuff she needs or wants. My girlfriend over the last month was talking about wanting a new Owala water bottle. I ended up getting her a new one and she loves it. Listen to her interests and use that for advantage to win her heart this Feb. 14.
#5. Stuffed Animal
Honestly, this option always works for your girlfriend. Either going to the store in person or just opening the Amazon shopping app, getting her a stuff animal will light up her heart. She will think it is very cute and never leave it out of her sight. She will sleep with it and think of you when she holds it.
If you stay to this game plan, I promise you will give her a Valetine’s Day that she will not forget. Get her those flowers, make her something, show her that you care, and everything will be fantastic!
