Ashland University’s Christian Ministry welcomed the month of December by hosting “Carols and Cocoa.” The event took place in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel on AU’s campus on Dec. 1, beginning at 9 p.m.
As snow blanketed the campus, students first made their way to the lower chapel, where a hot chocolate bar was provided.
A spread of different hot chocolate mixes, marshmallows, whipped cream and other toppings were set up in the kitchen for all to use. Cookies and other sweet treats were also provided.
Once their steaming drinks cooled off and the conversation dulled, students made their way to the upper chapel for the main attraction, singing Christmas carols.
The upper chapel was dark, the only warm light coming from two large Christmas trees standing tall in front of the pews.
The students gathered on stage around the piano and sang many different Christmas songs as more and more snow piled up outside.
AU’s Christian Ministry held this event last year and received a good turnout; many students enjoy welcoming the holiday season as the stressful week of final exams approaches.
“I had a great time singing Christmas songs with my friends and worshipping in the dark,” said student Zack Van Farowe.
“I hope they do something like this again next year.”
AU’s Christian Ministry is a prominent organization on campus; they hold small groups and Bible studies, classes, retreats and host short-term missions.
Carols and Cocoa is one of their multiple events held in honor of the holiday season and shows true to their saying, “Come be a part of the kingdom life that is all over Ashland’s campus and beyond,” as their events are always open to all students.
