On Ferguson Field on Thursday, Sept. 19 the Ashland University women’s soccer team came out on top against the Findlay Oilers in a 1-0 win.
This win set the tone for the Eagles Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play for the 2024-2025 season.
Deep into the matchup, the scoreless game had been changed during the 54th minute to 1-0 game when Junior Forward Dani Hicks scored against the Oilers.
With Hicks leading the team in scoring for the 2024 season it is no surprise she potted the lone goal.
Outside of this lone goal, the Eagle’s overtook the Oilers in corner kicks having nine out of ten; also, having a 17 to 6 shot advantage over the Oilers.
After this win the Eagles moved to 1-0 in the league and 3-1 for the season.
Following the win against the Oilers, the Eagles pulled out another win against the Ursuline Arrows just two days later Saturday, Sept. 21 on home turf.
Early in the match, the Eagles set the tone for the game when senior forward McKinley Mendenhall scored off an assist from Hicks putting them at 1-0 within just seven minutes into the game.
In the 28th minute, Hicks contributed another goal assisted by senior forward Sydney McMilan putting another ball into the Arrow’s net making the score 2-0.
Following Hicks senior forward Tori Haggit scored her first goal of the season and the third goal of the game for Ashland during the 35th minute.
Then soon after the fifth-year forward Allison King continued the pressure against the Arrows and potted another goal for the Eagles during the 43rd minute.
Hicks then scored her fifth goal of the season and her third career brace during the 48th minute as an Eagle by putting another ball into the Arrows net to score the final Eagle goal.
During the 69th minute, the Arrows Alexis Ivory would score their first and only goal of the game – putting the final score at 5-1.
This goal broke the Eagles streak of around 383 minutes without yielding a tally.
This win put the Eagles at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play for the GMAC. Their next matchup is Thursday, Sept. 26 against Northwood at home on Ferguson Field.
