The Ashland University Men’s Soccer team traveled six hours to compete against the Millersville Marauders on Sunday, Sept. 8.
The team will return to campus with a win in their first road game of the season.
The Eagles came into the contest with a 0-1 record, coming off a 4-0 loss at home to Davis and Elkins this past Thursday, Sept. 5.
Millersville came into the contest with an undefeated 1-0 record, having recently won 4-2 at home against Salem University.
Last season, Millersville defeated Ashland at home 3-2 and had the record and home-field advantages — the Eagles coming in as the underdogs.
Both teams were scoreless throughout the first 14 minutes until the Eagles got a corner kick.
Fifth-year midfielder Oliver Whaley would execute the corner kick, and he would connect with senior midfielder Sirlem Thullah for his first collegiate goal to bring the Eagles up 1-0.
It would not be easy going for the Eagles as senior goalkeeper Ty Bowden, he would make four saves and earn his 11th career shutout.
Ashland won despite being outshot 9-3. Ashland improves to 1-1 on the season and will play against Gannon on Wednesday, September 11th – home at Ferguson Field.
