Ashland Library’s magical new event: Harry Potter Bingo

Expecto Patronum! The first ever Harry Potter bingo will take place in the Ashland Library on Feb. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is being put on by AU Acquisitions Librarian Sarah Thomas, who has created the event to relieve some stress for the student body, while digging into the highly coveted and immense lore of the Harry potter series.

“Everyone loves Harry Potter, everyone loves bingo, and everyone loves to win free stuff. It’s a great way to relieve some of that stress before the week and have some fun a the library,” said Thomas.

The game will be conducted by Thomas with each round taking approximately 30 minutes. The cards will feature all things Harry potter, from household names such as Ron Weasly and Dumbledor, to musical spells such as “expecto patronum” and “repello muggletum.”

Collectable Harry potter toys and trinkets will be awarded to the winner of each round. Quidditch scarves, muggs and banners are just a few of the items a round winner will get to choose from.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Harry Potter. Each Christmas break my daughter and I watch all of the movies together, it has become a tradition for us,” said Thomas. “The series is great because it works for all ages, small children and adults love these books and movies so much.”

Harry Potter Bingo is just one of the three events the Ashland University library is putting on this year. In the fall semester the library created an escape room, similar to the one of Ashand’s Masterminds.

The fall escape room was themed “The Librarian Time-Traveller” and pitted students against the clock to escape the librarian’s secret holding cell.

“The escape room was great, my friends and I loved it! It’s one of the better events that we put on as a library staff,” said sophomore and library employee Taylor Anderson.

This coming spring Sarah Thomas and the rest of the library staff will host another escape room, this one themed after the novel “The Snow Queen.”

“We’ve learned a lot from our first escape room. We’ve tweaked a few things to make it more challenging and more interactive, this one should be a lot of fun,” said Thomas.

Thomas and library staff members urge everyone to come out to Harry Potter Bingo and the future planned escape room to have some fun and relieve some stress.
