Lyn-Way restaurant review

Sometimes finding something to do in Ashland seems impossible. But, two Collegian reporters, Connor Dunwoodie and Callan Pugh, determined to find fun in their senior year, are visiting local spots in Ashland and reviewing them, so you know exactly what to expect if you choose to visit. This week, they went on over to Lyn-Way Restaurant. Lyn-Way is located at 1320 Cleveland Ave. in Ashland.

I’ve been here a few times but I have never seen other students here. I think some people know about it but it’s unfortunate that more do not. Mostly I see people here from town and of an older age. My dad taught me that the best way to tell if a place has good food and good prices is to look at the clientel. Usually older crowds know what’s up and where to go get a good meal at a good price. It also is a place that has great pie. In fact I can’t remember a time someone mentioned Lyn-Way to me without mentioning the pie. So all around Lyn-Way is a win win. It’s that small-town diner that you just can’t help but love.

Arriving at Lyn-Way the place does not stand out too much, it is a simple structure that is hidden in the depths of the outer rim of Ashland. Once found though, Lyn-Way is a very cozy family restaurant that is incredibly affordable and has something for everyone, whether it be a good burger, appetizers, or one of their famous pies.

Service: 3.75/5

I thought the service was really good. We didn’t have long wait times, we were given extra time when we asked for it to look at the menu, and our food was brought out quickly. Only boobs would say the service was somewhat spotty.

The service was somewhat spotty, the waitress came to take our order and bring our food, but only stopped by one other time, and that was to bring us our check. Even though it was spotty when the waitress was around she was very friendly and made sure our needs were taken care of.

Cleanliness: 4/5

Everything was nice and clean inside. The booths weren’t sticky with some strange unidentifiable goo… You know the one I’m talking about. The one that feels like two preschoolers had a chocolate milk fight right where you’re sitting and your seat was where the loser sat. My standards are pretty low I guess but seriously Lyn-Way is nice, clean and well kept.

Connor

Lyn-Way was very clean overall. The tables were wiped off and the floor was freshly vacuumed. I always look at the dishes to see if they are stained or dirty, but Lyn-Way has very clean dishes and silverware.

Bathrooms: 4.25/5

The bathrooms have definitely undergone recent updates. The sink is nice and clean and the soap and towel dispensers were both automatic. The floor and toilets are a bit more dated and some wear is definitely showing through but it’s clear that the bathrooms are well-kept. The lights are also automatic so I spent a minute looking frantically for the light switch but once I got past that, as J.K. Rowling might say in the final sentence of an epilogue of a seven book series, all was well.

The bathrooms were very clean as well, and there was a changing station in case you had a kid. They were decently sized, at first I thought it was an individual bathroom and I felt really weird when I walked in with some random guy, but I found out it multiple people could use it, so it was not as awkward after that.

Affordability: 4/5

Callan

Lyn-Way has a lot of different options on the menu. Some are a little more expensive than others but everything is well priced. My burger was well priced. With a tip I spent $5 and you really can’t beat that. I would definitely like to go back and try more of what they have to offer and thanks to the good prices, it looks like I will be able to afford to do that!

Connor

Lyn-Way is super affordable, I got a pizza burger for a little over $3. All of the sandwiches were in between $3-$7 and were incredibly affordable. The food was not bad either, and for the price it was definitely worth it. If you are looking for an affordable location with good food, it is definitely a good place to go.

Atmosphere: 4.25 /5

I noticed several customers on a first name basis with the servers. Not to be that person that makes Twilight references, but it totally gave me the vibe that the diner in Twilight gave. Lucky for Connor and me, we weren’t dining with our police officer father while subtly hinting that we are in love with an 116-year-old vampire. Phew. But it was a seriously comfortable and welcoming place to be. And though our rating is out of five points, I give it a “10 out of 10, would go again” just because it was such a nice place to be.

Connor

The atmosphere of Lyn-Way felt a lot like a family diner. It had a very comfortable small town vibe to it. The servers knew a lot of their customers, and the ones they did not (such as Callan and I) made us feel very welcome. The whole place has a very family oriented feel to it and you just feel at ease and comfortable when you hang out there.
