Ashland University to honor its veteran graduate students with a cord of honor

Ashland University is holding a special ceremony and reception honoring all the Ashland University veteran graduates with a cord of honor on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. in the John C. Myers Convocation Center at Ashland University.

In the first event of its kind in the history of the Ashland University, the University will be presenting Spring 2017 graduates who have or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces with a patriotic Cord of Honor, which will be worn during Spring Commencement.

“It’s important that Ashland University recognizes the service that these men and women have giving to their country,” Randy Spade, Veteran Affairs Coordinator said. “and the small talking will represent what Ashland want to afford to students.”

The special ceremony will host Matt Miller, Ashland University alumnus and Ashland, Ohio, City Council-at-Large member, as the guest speaker in coordination with a representative from Student Veterans of America.

“The university has established a Veteran Affairs Coordinator position among the staff of the university to help coordinate and to facilitate the education of these service of men and women who have returned from active duty or who are eligible to receive benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs, ” Spade said.
