The Ashland University Health and Sciences department will hold its annual Fit Fest. Fit Fest is a fundraiser that is put on by the department that includes majors like Athletic Training, Exercise Science and Dietetics to get others involved on campus with the fit fest challenge along with games, Group X classes and other activities.

“There’s different challenges at every station. There are some balance activities, some coordination activities. It’s all related to some type of physical activity that everybody can do,” Associate Professor of Health Science Dr. Patton said.

The Fit Fest will also provide prizes and food for anyone involved.

Student and faculty can create teams for the challenge as well. The teams can be up to 3 to 5 people and is $5 per person. All events are free and open to the public except for the fit fest challenge.

“It starts in Redwood, and if it’s nice we will be all over campus. We have stations out at the football field, in front of the Rec center, the quad, outside of Founders, and by the Student Center,” Dr. Patton said.

Everyone can register beforehand or the day of the Fit Fest and will receive a shirt and stress dumbbells.
The annual Fit Fest brings students and faculty together to enjoy the last couple of weeks of school, as well as donates all of the proceeds to Project Outrun. Project Outrun is an organization that helps children who battle pediatric cancer design their own pair of shoes as a way to “outrun cancer”.

“That’s just one way of giving back. We want to support pediatric cancer because no kid should have cancer. No kid should die from cancer,” Dr. Patton said.

Their overall goal is to raise $2,000, according to the AU press release.

“Just come out and have fun. Get people together, or even get a team you don’t know. You’re giving back to a great organization by just supporting Project Outrun,” Dr. Patton said.

The Fit Fest is set for April 14 at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on campus on the Quad that is located behind Founders Hall and in Redwood.

If severe weather occurs, the event will be moved inside Redwood for the entire time of the event.

Registration forms for Fit Fest can be picked up in the Health and Sciences department.
