The Women’s basketball team wrapped up a three-game road stretch to start the season with a 93-51 win over the Walsh Cavaliers (2-1)

It started out as a game of streaks.

Walsh took an early 7-2 lead, only to be quickly tied up at 7-7. The Cavs and Eagles traded buckets until the score was again tied at 15 late in the first quarter.

AU took the lead for the first time on an old fashioned three-point play from Jodi Johnson. The Eagles hit nine free throws in the first quarter to give themselves a 24-21 lead heading into the second quarter.

It was in the second frame where Ashland really started to gel as they exploded for 26-points. An early layup by Karlee Pireu led to a quarter full of quality shots by the Eagles. They only shot one free throw this quarter, but made up for it by going 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles ended the second quarter on a 16-0 run, to solidify a 50-31 lead at the break.

Starting the third quarter with a 19-point lead was quite good enough for the Eagles. At the 5-minute mark of the quarter a three-pointer and a lay-up by Jodi Johnson, a couple of baskets from Sara Loomis and quality defensive play by the rest of the team led to a 24-point lead for Ashland.

The next 5 minutes were more Ashland dominance and the Eagles ended with a 29 point Ashland lead at the start of the fourth quarter, leading 71-42.

The fourth quarter went by quickly and Ashland built on their lead as they cruised to their third straight win, 93-51. Johnson had a game-high 25 points in 33 minutes. She shot 8-9 from the field including 3-3 from beyond the arc and also pulled down six rebounds and garnered five assists.
Renee Stimpert was second on the team in scoring with 17 points, six rebound and six assists.

Karlee Pireu had a career game with 14 points on 6-8 shooting in a career-high 22 minutes of action.

Five Eagles finished in double figures as AU secured their third straight double digit win and their 65th straight regular season win.

Ashland will get a bit of a break as they will have 10 days off before their home opener on November 24 against Missouri S&T with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
