Track and Field at Grand Valley State Big Meet

The Ashland University Track and Field team went to the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday and the Kent State Qualifier on Saturday (Feb. 9-10).

On Friday, redshirt freshman Gianna DiPippo won Friday’s women’s weight throw with a mark of 18.69 meters a personal best throw by nine-tenths of a meter. Junior Mackenzie Leigh was right behind DiPippo in second place with a throw of 18.61 meters.
Junior Myles Pringle was second in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.58 seconds, while freshman David Amstutz was second in the men’s shot put at 16.52 meters.

In the men’s 4×400 relay, the quartet of senior William Robinson, freshmen Trevor Bassitt, T.J. Elliott and Brenden Archer, placed third with a time of 3:17.13. That was a provisional time for the quartet.

Sophomore Nick Zak won the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.75 meters, which is improved for his best distance for the season.
Sophomore Amber Otermat came into Saturday with a top season mark of 3.57 meters that she got in December. She won the women’s pole vault unseeded class on Saturday with a season best height of 3.63 meters.

Up next for the team they will head to the Ohio State Open on Friday, Feb. 16 and they will also be in action at the Kent state Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 17.
