THE GAME

Noah Cloonan

After pulling off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history in 2017, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are back in the big game for the 10th time. Their opponents will be a rematch of the 2004 Super Bowl as the high flying Philadelphia Eagles will meet the Patriots at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN.

ENTERTAINMENT
Justin Timberlake is returning to the halftime stage after more than a decade of being away, making him the first musician to perform three times at the Super Bowl. And, with his new album “Man of the Woods” dropping two days prior, it is safe to assume he will perform at least one song from that album.
He may also perform some of his hit songs like “Mirrors” or “Can’t Stop the Feeling” in the 13 minutes of stage time he has, but who knows? He isn’t giving any hints, but there is a good chance he may also use his opportunity to be an activist about some hot-button issues.
Pink, the three-time Grammy award winner will sing the National Anthem this year at the big game. For what it is worth, the over/under on how long the Anthem will last is set at 120 seconds.

VIEWING
Each year the Super Bowl ranks near the top of the charts as far as the most watched events of the year.
Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 was the most watched game ever bringing in over 114 million viewers.
And even for non-football fans, the Super Bowl is a must watch for the commercials alone.
A 30-second commercial that airs during the game costs about five million dollars, according to CBS.
This is one of the rare occasions where people actually look forward to the timeouts so that they can see what Doritos or Budweiser have come up with this year to entertain millions. And do not forget the Puppy Bowl that kicks off at 3 p.m.
Seriously, what is better than kicking back and watching a bunch of puppies play with a toy football. It is the perfect way to kick off Super Bowl Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Head Coach- Doug Pederson
Record- 13-3
Road to the Super Bowl- After a tying a franchise high 13 wins in the regular season, the Eagles drew a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional round. The Eagles were able to ground the high flying Falcons offense and advanced to the NFC Championship game with a 15-10 win. The Eagles opponent in the NFC Championship game was the Minnesota Vikings who were playing for a chance to reach the Super Bowl that is being played at their stadium, but those chances were quickly smothered as the Eagles dominated and advanced to the big game with a 38-7 win.
Offense- Nick Foles took over at quarterback after Carson Wentz was injured and fortunately for the Eagles they did not skip a beat. Foles had his best game in the Championship round against the Vikings by throwing for 352 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The real question will be whether or not Foles can repeat that performance.
Defense- The Eagles boast one of the better defenses in the NFL as they allow just 79.2 rushing yards per game and hold opposing quarterbacks to just a 44.6 quarterback rating

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Head Coach- Bill Belichick
Record- 13-3
Road to the Super Bowl- The Patriots claimed the No. 1 seed in the AFC and used the bye week to prepare for the Tennessee Titans and the Pats were certainly ready. Tom Brady and the New England offense rattled off 35 points and sent the Titans home with a 35-14 win in the Divisional round. Moving on to the AFC Championship game, the Patriots waited for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars led for the majority of the game but in dramatic fashion, Tom Brady led a fourth quarter comeback for the ages and spoiled the Jags hopes with a 24-20 win.
Offense- It’s no surprise that the Pats have the best offense in the league, after all they have the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. The Patriots are averaging a league leading 27.94 points per game and averaging close to 400 yards of offense per game. As long as the Patriots have Brady, the rest of the offense will be fine.
Defense- If the Patriots have one flaw it is their defense. New England ranked 24th in the NFL in defensive efficiency this season, but on the plus side they have played better in the postseason giving up just 34 points in their two games so far.

FOOD
Nothing makes a Super Bowl party like having the right food. Whether it’s chips and dip, pizza or wings, the food is always a staple. The National Chicken Council (yes that is a real thing) reports that Americans will eat 1.35 Billion chicken wings on Super Bowl weekend, which is more than 20 million more wings than 2017.
