AU Cross Country scores trophys at second meet

Both Ashland University cross country teams won team trophies Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Otterbein Invitational. This was Ashland’s second meet of the season.

The AU men finished first in a field of 18 teams. The AU women took top honors among 19 teams. The Eagles had the top individual in both races.

The Eagle men finished the day with 40 points. Mount Union (73) was a distant second and DePauw (98) was third. AU’s Brock Weaver a junior, finished first, completing the 8K race in 25:39.9. Former AU track and field standout Brandon Bauer, running for the Columbus Running Company, was second (25:42.0). AU junior Cameron Johnson was third (25:59.4) and sophomore Colton Johnson was fourth (26:01.5). Ashland’s final Top 10 performance belonged to junior Matt Stratman, who was eighth (26:13.8).

The AU women placed first with a team score of 41 points. Otterbein was second (75) and DePauw was third (104).

Junior Mandy Farson covered the 5K course in 18:04.7 to claim first place. Her teammate, sophomore Stephanie Stoffel was second in 18:19.0. Senior Leah Allen was 12th (19:17.4) and sophomore McKenzie Roth was 13th (19:18.4).

Up next for the Eagles is the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Cedarville this coming Friday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
