AU Tennis sweeps competition

By Nick Zavarella

The Ashland University tennis team (6-1) has played very well all year while Ohio Dominican has won its previous six matches. Unfortunately, their match (Sept. 24) was suspended with no other scheduled matchups.

Unlike ODU, AU did play Clarion and Lake Erie last Sunday and beat both teams by identical 9-0 margins.

Third doubles as well as fifth and sixth singles were victories for AU by default. LECW’s Jordyn Parrigan was the only Storm player to win a set, yet fell to Victoria Goudy, 6-1, 6-1.

Erika Sullivan, Paige Cooper and Kira Kotova all swept second, third and fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Ashland had a break while Clarion defeated Lake Erie 6-3 before the Eagles completed the sweep, beating Clarion.

The women stay in Ashland for their final two home matches of the season. First on the block is Northwood (Oct. 1) at 3 p.m. Northwood has only played three matches but has yet to lose. Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m., Saginaw Valley State will take on the Eagles. Saginaw is 1-3.
