Women have scoreless weekend, earn draw

By Chris Bils

The Ashland women’s soccer team had a tough weekend, failing to score any goals but managing to pull out a draw at Ohio Dominican Friday. Sunday’s game saw them put up a fight against the No. 11 Northern Kentucky Norse, only to fall 2-0.

Ohio Dominican

Ashland went to Ohio Dominican trying to stop their two game losing skid. They accomplished that feat but were unable to score the goal that would’ve clinched a victory over the Panthers.

Freshman goalkeeper Karly Beuck had a magnificent game, making five saves to secure her second clean sheet of the season.

Ashland did create chances, as Alyssa Gervelis and Katelyn Peterson each put shots off the post in overtime and late in regulation, respectively. The Eagles were able to weather a storm of Panther shots in the second overtime.

Northern Kentucky

Ashland gave Northern Kentucky everything they had Sunday, falling to the nationally ranked Norse by a score of 2-0. Despite a flurry of three shots on goal from freshman forward Kelly Krispinsky, the Eagles were unable to score a goal.

Both of the Norse’s goals came in the first half, starting in the 35th minute when Amanda Mason put one in the back of the net. Kelly Sullivan followed it up in the 38th minute to give NKU a 2-0 lead that they would hold on to for the rest of the game.

Ashland is off until Friday, when they will travel to Ferris State before going to Grand Valley State Sunday to finish a string of seven road games. The Eagles (2-3-1, 1-2-1 GLIAC) will return home Oct. 1 to play Michigan Tech.
