Men’s Golf places seventh at GLIAC Championships

The Ashland University men’s golf team finished seventh out of 11 teams Monday at the GLIAC Championships. This year’s conference tournament was held at Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club in Grosse Ile, Mich. Wayne State hosted.

Ferris State won the conference championship after a playoff with Wayne State. Both teams finished regulation tied at 889 (+37). Grand Valley State (904/+52) was a distant third. The Eagles shot 927 (+75).

Ferris State’s Kyle Wittenbach shot 215 (+2) and was the top individual. Eric Johnson of Wayne State (219/+6) was the runner-up and Findlay’s Joe McGeean (220/+7) was third. AU junior Jay Overy (Grafton, Ohio/Midview) finished fourth. Overy shot 221 (+8).

Sophomore Mark Scott Jr. (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) shot 233 (+20) and was 29th. Junior Steve Bednar (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Stow) shot 234 (+21) and finished in a tie for 30th.

The Eagles will play in the Tiffin Invitational, Oct. 9-10.
