Traveling away from Ashland was no good for the tennis team as they fell to Ferris State (7-2, 7-2 GLIAC) last Thursday and lost to Grand Valley State, both by scores of 5-4.

 

Ferris

Last week’s GLIAC Player of the Week won third singles followed by wins in fourth and fifth singles by senior Corinne Pasley and freshman Kira Kotova. After both teams split in singles action, the deciding factor was in doubles action. Victoria Goudy and Paige Cooper won first double, 8-4, but the Bulldogs took second and third doubles decisively.

Grand Valley

It wasn’t a carbon copy of their Ferris State matches, but the second game in as many days for AU ended with nearly the same result.

The two teams split the singles action with Goudy, Erika Sullivan and Kotova collecting singles wins. Once again, the Eagles were outdone in doubles action with the only AU win coming from Pasley and Alexandra Ware in second doubles, 9-8 (7-4). With the win, GVSU stayed perfect, with 8-0 overall and 8-0 in the GLIAC. Ashland’s record dropped to 8-4 overall, 7-4 GLIAC.

Next for Ashland is the ITA Nationals, which started Wednesday and will continue through Sunday. The GLIAC Championships will be played from Oct. 22-24 in Midland, Mich.
