Ashland University sophomore Julie Widmann has been named the GLIAC female swimmer of the week for Nov. 8.

Widmann won three individual events last Saturday at Indianapolis and reached an NCAA “B” cut in each event. She won the 100 backstroke in 58.43, the 50 freestyle in 23.77 and the 200 backstroke in 2:08.83. Widmann also competed on the 200 free relay that claimed a gold medal in 1:36.27. Widmann was Ashland’s leadoff swimmer and her time of 23.38 is an “A” cut. Widmann is the only female swimmer in NCAA Division II with an “A” cut at this point in the season.

Widmann earned seven All-America citations at last spring’s NCAA Division II Championships. She was on the 200 free relay that won a national championship. Widmann was third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke. The AU women finished seventh in the country.

Ashland defeated Indianapolis, 143-128. The Eagles are at home this Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lake Erie.
