Track team gives solid showing at Kent State

The Ashland University track and field teams were at the Kent State Tune Up Saturday to work out all the kinks before next week’s GLIAC Championships at Saginaw Valley State. The Eagles did not take full teams to Kent State, but the contingent that went gave a strong showing.

The AU women took the top three spots in the long jump. Senior Steph Abbott was first (18-1), followed by senior Lisa Roth in second place (17-8.25). Third place went to another senior, Abby Kacsandi. Kacsandi’s best leap measured 17-4.25.

Senior Steph Tinney was the runner-up in the 400. Her time was 55.62. First place went to Shana Vinson who crossed the finish line in 55.18.

Senior Leah Allen had a busy and productive day. She was second (5:03.71) in the mile and fifth in the 800 (2:18.74). Sophomore Stephanie Stoffel was third mile (5:04.26). Junior Kelly Ash was second in the shot put (49-5) and the weight throw (59-0.75). Senior Katie Sopher was fourth (58-6.75) in the weight throw. Kacsandi was fourth in the shot put (43-9.25).

The women’s 4X4 relay finished first in 3:50.86.

For the men, senior Kurt Roberts finished first in the shot put. He won the event with a throw of 60-3. In the weight throw, AU strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger was first (76-11.75) and junior Ryan Loughney was second (67-9.5). Sophomore Richard Quick was third (65-11.5).

In the 400, sophomore Cory Lamar finished third (48.25).

The 4X4 relay won a gold medal, finishing in 3:14.96.
