Sibs and Kids strikes back

By Brian Young

The annual Sibs and Kids Weekend is fast approaching at Ashland University. This year’s edition will take place on the weekend of Feb. 18-20. Students are encouraged to invite their sisters, brothers, sons and daughters to come on over and have a blast.

This year’s theme, voted on by the student senate, is “To Ashland and Beyond.” Inspired by the highly touted film “Toy Story 3,” this theme is designed to help kids have a great time and provide a fun atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board and several other departments, the coordinator of this event is Chelsea Kamp, an officer of Residence Life in the Student Senate.

“This year I think we’ve done well at providing the students with a packed schedule full of variety,” Kamp said. “I am excited to see the success of the weekend.”

There definitely will be variety, with many fun and diverse events that students and their siblings or children can participate in.

On Friday, “Toy Story 3” will be shown as the dive-in movie at the Rec Center. Participants are able to watch the movie while floating on an inner tube in the Rec Center swimming pool. This allows them to not only experience the greatness that is “Toy Story 3,” but also work on their sea legs as well.

Saturday is packed with tons of activities that will provide hours of fun too. Baking in Convo, crafts, group fitness and even a corn-hole tournament are just some of the many games and activities that students and their guests can choose from.

World renowned entertainer Justin Kredible will also be performing at 8 p.m. in Redwood. He’ll be sure to amaze and captivate his audience with his magic and comedy act, which was featured on “Cupcake Wars” on the Food Network.

The weekend’s events will come to a close Sunday with a raffle drawing in the Eagles’ Nest and “create a book” in the Eagles’ Landing.

With all the activities that AU has planned, CAB and the other sponsors hope this year’s Sibs and Kids Weekend will be an excellent time. Be sure to invite your sibs and kids so you can join in the fun.
