AU gets some love

By Justine Ackerman

We have all watched “It Only Hurts When I Laugh” and have made smart-ass comments about the people in the video. Well, Loni Love has made a comedic career out of what most of us simply do on our couch.

Love is a regular panelist on the popular late night comedy show, “Chelsea Lately,” hosted by the infamous Chelsea Handler, as well as other guest comedians such as Jo Koy, Guy Branum, Randy and Jason Sklar (who have already graced AU with their presence), and Bobby Lee. Love easily competes with these comic geniuses and is known for taking things one step further; in one of the “Chelsea Lately” episodes, Love sat at the round table topless. Love later tweeted on her twitter page: “Yes, I was topless for The Wellness Community…they help cancer survivors.”

Love is bringing her fame, humor and helping bosom to Ashland University Feb. 25. Her stand-up will be held in Redwood and the show will begin at 9 p.m. She is expected to perform for about an hour. The Campus Activities Board is thrilled to have booked Love as an act and cannot wait to see what she has in store.

“People are super excited about Loni Love coming to campus and so am I,” Jerika Gilcreast, co-chair of CAB, said. “She has great stage presence, and CAB and the student body can’t wait for her to grace our stage.”

Love’s credentials besides “Chelsea Lately” include TruTV’s “The Smoking Gun Presents: World’s Dumbest,” VH1’s “I Love the 70s/80s/90s” and “Comics Unleashed.” She also became a CNN correspondent for “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” to cover the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009. (This and other information can be found on Love’s official website: http://www.lonilove.com/bio/). Both Variety and Comedy Central named Love among their Top 10 Comics to Watch.

Love was supposed to come to AU before now, but her schedule just didn’t work out.

“We picked Loni Love because she is hilarious and she is a well-known comedian,” Gilcreast said. “We had her booked before, but she had to do the Chelsea Lately show.”

Have no fear, Loni Love fans: This time around, Love will be here. But how can such a popular and busy comedian take time out of her schedule to come perform at small AU? You can see for yourself on Love’s website, where she merely states: “I love to make people laugh!”
