Ashland in seventh place in Learfield Cup standings

Ashland University is ranked seventh in the latest 2010-11 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings. The Eagles scored 346.5 points, the most of any NCAA Division II institution in the country during the winter sports season. The all-sports standings include 173 NCAA Division II institutions.

The AU men’s track and field team finished second in the country and earned 90 points. The women’s swimming team placed fifth in the nation and picked up 75 points. The women’s track and field team received 80.5 points for placing eighth and men’s swimming finished 11th and produced 57 points. Wrestling, which finished 20th, earned the Eagles 54 points.

For the year, Ashland has a total of 371.50 points. Grand Valley State is the national leader with 703.0 points. Shippensburg is second with 496.50 points and Central Missouri is third with 456.0 points.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded on each institution’s finish in up to 14 sports – seven women’s and seven men’s.
