Women’s golf takes first-day lead in California

The Ashland University women’s golf team was in first place after the first day of play March 9 at the Classic Club Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif.

AU had a team score of 329 to lead a field of eight teams. Concordia-St. Paul was second (331) and Grand Valley State (332) was third. Minnesota State-Mankato was fourth (336).

GVSU’s Allie Tyler was the individual leader. She shot a 78, one stroke in front of her teammate, Sarah Hoffman, and K.C. Kane of Southwest Minnesota State. AU junior Erin Misheff was in a four-way tie for

fourth place. Misheff shot 80, and one of the players she was tied with was her teammate, senior Annie Miles.  

Senior Melanie Fortner shot 84 and was tied for 11th place while senior Elisa Leonard shot 85 and finished the first day tied for 13th.

The women are next on the links March 26-27 at the Northern Kentucky Spring Invite.
