The Ashland University baseball program boasts two players recognized by the GLAIC after spectacular performances. Senior outfielder Evan Melendez and junior pitcher Aaron Hilt were chosen as the GLIAC Baseball “Player of the Week” and  “Pitcher of the Week,” respectively.

Evan Melendez hit .476 (10-for-21) for Ashland last week. Melendez hit three doubles, had five RBI, scored a team-high eight runs and also walked three times for a .560 on-base percentage. Melendez stole four bases in five attempts and is 23-for-26 (88 percent) in his AU career. Melendez had three multi-hit games last week and went 8-for-15 in four games at Ohio Dominican.

Aaron Hilt won two games last week, including a three-hit shutout at Ohio Dominican during Saturday’s 8-0 victory. Hilt also earned a relief win against Lake Erie Thursday, when he pitched the ninth and 10th innings during AU’s 5-4 win, allowing one hit and striking out four. During Saturday’s contest, Hilt gave up just three singles and only walked two in the shutout win over ODU. Hilt struck out nine Storm batters, lowering his season ERA to 1.42.
