Printmaking exhibit to be showcased at AU

A multitude of unique works will be on display at the Coburn Art Gallery during the printmaking exhibition this fall. The event showcases pieces by both Ashland University students and alumni. In addition, works from the Lexington, Kentucky based Bluegrass Printmakers’ Cooperative (BPC) will be showcased at the exhibition.

Beginning on Oct. 27 and lasting through Dec. 9, the show welcomes both students and the general public. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m., with a special reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 27.

A wide spectrum of both present and past AU students created pieces for the event, with some works made in 1999. Specifically, the exhibition shows a combination of etchings, lithographs, and relief prints developed by former and current students.

The other works at the show are from the BPC, which was formed in 2004. They develop a variety of art including collagraphs, monoprints, etchings, woodcuts, linoleum cuts and solar etchings. Approximately 20 members work for this organization, and seven of these artists will have their art on display at the show.

Besides providing the public and students with the opportunity to observe art, the event also holds benefits for the individuals involved in the printmaking field.

“Printmakers utilize a variety of forums, such as workshops, print exchanges, and in this case, exhibitions to share technical information,” said associate professor Keith Dull. “Shows like this raise awareness of the art form, and educate students in the use of various techniques.”
