The undead return to AU
October 3, 2012
Two years ago fear was in the air for one weekend in September on Ashland’s campus. Zombies prowled the campus, humans patrolled campus in groups and no one was safe.
2010 was the first and last time a game of Humans versus Zombies had been played at Ashland University, but now a small group of students are hoping to resurrect it bigger and better than before.
Humans versus Zombies is a huge game of survival played across hundreds of colleges around the world. It involves two teams, humans and zombies, playing tag in a simulated zombie apocalypse. Zombies have to tag humans in order to “eat” them and humans can defend themselves with Nerf guns or balled up socks.
In addition to eluding the zombies in their day-to-day lives, there are also missions for the humans to accomplish and the zombies to prevent.
Junior Cyrus Massoudi is coordinating this year’s game after freshmen Tommy Pochedly and Zac Hoffman approached him about putting together another big game on campus.
Pochedly says he has wanted to bring the game to Ashland ever since a family member at a different school played the game.
“I just wanted to try it when I got to college,” Pochedly said. “It seemed like a lot of fun.”
Massoudi had tried to get the game going last year but communication broke down.
He and the other leaders of the group hope this year’s game will be bigger than ever before and are already receiving lots of interest on Facebook.
Students interested in participating in the game must attend one of two interest meetings where rules and conduct will be discussed and participants must sign a waiver. The meetings are October 17 or 25 at 9:30pm in the Rec center.
The actual game takes place beginning the morning of October 26 and will run through October 27.
Students interested can visit the Facebook event page “Ashland University Humans vs. Zombies,” or by contacting Tommy Pochedly at [email protected].
The group is looking for as many players as possible, in addition to trying to find moderators for the game people just interested in helping out.
