Rec Services hosting second annual homecoming 5k Fun Run

Are you looking for something fun and active to do Homecoming Weekend? Participate in the second annual Homecoming 5k Fun Run.

Held Oct. 13, this event is the perfect opportunity for those looking to bust out their running shoes and hit the pavement for some heart-pumping, cardio boosting action.

Sponsored by AU Recreational Services and the Office of Alumni & Parent Relations, this event is being held on homecoming weekend for the second year in a row.

“We had a really good turnout last year,” said assistant director of aquatics and wellness Alexis Smith, the event’s organizer. “We had about 75 people pre-register and 25 walk-ups, so we are hoping for the same thing this year.”

There will be some changes this year, including a separate start time of 9:30 a.m. for those looking to walk the course, or for those that wish to bring their children in strollers.

This allows for those slower-paced participants to enjoy the course and take their time before the chaos of the running horde ensues.

Another change is to the course itself. This year, the participants will enjoy “A Tour of Ashland University.” This course features a running tour around the spectacular buildings located on the beautiful AU campus.

Participants will be able to witness the new buildings and features that have been implemented throughout the campus this year.

Anyone from the community, as well as AU alumni and students are all welcome.

So whether you’re an experienced runner looking for a workout, or someone just looking for a good time, this 5k fun run’s for you.

Registration is only $5 and will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event, outside of the Rec Center.

The race will then begin at 10 a.m. Register early though, as the first 100 runners will receive a free giveaway prize.
