At Michigan Tech (10-2, 8-0)

The women’s soccer team was on the wrong side of a defensive match in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Friday, falling 2-0 to Michigan Tech.

Both teams combined for just 13 shots, with the Huskies holding a slim 7-6 advantage.

Tech’s Katie Boardman was the first to find the back of the net in the 28th minute off of a double-assist by Danna Kasom and MacKenzie Jordan.

It was Jordan’s sixth goal of the season.

Kasom widened the Huskies’ lead in the 61st minute when she tapped in a rebound off the crossbar.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Plescia made three saves for the Eagles.

Sophomore midfielder/forward led AU with three shots, two of which were on goal.

Michigan Tech is on top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings and is on a nine-game winning streak.

There were only three corner kicks in the match, two of which were taken by Ashland.

The Eagles committed 13 fouls to the Huskies’ 10, and sophomore forward Kathleen Demaree received a yellow card in the 49th minute.

At Northern Michigan (3-10, 2-7)

Freshman forward Krista Lewis scored twice within the first 20 minutes Sunday to lead Ashland to a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan.

Lewis’s first goal came less than three minutes into the game, when she slotted in a shot from inside the box.

In the 19th minute, Lewis scored her second off of a rebound on a shot by freshman forward Beth Lang.

Ashland had the better of play in the first half, with eight shots to just six for the Wildcats. The second half was less offensive than the first, but the Eagles still created more opportunities and finished the game with an 11-8 shooting advantage.

The only shot that found the back of the net came off of a corner kick by junior defender/midfielder Melissa Hill. Hill’s kick went directly into the goal, making the score 3-0.

Plescia made four saves to preserve the clean sheet, her third of the season. Four of Ashland’s five wins have been shutouts.

The win moved Ashland’s record to 5-10 overall and 4-6 in the GLIAC with three games remaining.

The Eagles return home tomorrow to take on Lake Erie at 4:30 p.m. They will play their final home game Sunday against Notre Dame College at 2 p.m. Sunday will be Senior Day for defender Rachel Luebke, defender/midfielder Jessica Slauter and midfielder Maria Lackey.
