The Ashland University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, Ohio and came out with two top-ten team finishes.

The men’s team placed fourth overall and second among competing Division II schools, while the women placed ninth overall and also took second among Division II programs.

The only Division II team to beat AU in both divisions was fellow GLIAC member Malone.

The competition included 43 men’s teams and 42 women’s teams from all over the state of Ohio.

Individually, Brian Baum finished the 8k race in 24:42, which was good enough for third place overall and was the top time among Division II competitors.

Nick Hall (25:09) placed ninth overall and Isaac Potes (25:13) took 11th.

The top finisher in the men’s division was Miami’s (OH) Joseph Turner. He finished with a time of 24:32, just ten seconds ahead of Baum.

Delainey Phelps was the top finisher among AU women after finishing eight overall with a 6k time of 22:31.

Her time was the second best among Division II racers, with Malone’s Hannah Campbell being the only one to beat her.

Kylee Bernthisel was the next Eagle to cross the finish line. She placed 29th after posting a time of 23:01.

The top finisher overall in the women’s division was Oberlin College’s Emma Lehmann.

Her time was 21:41.

AU adds to its impressive team finishes at the first meet of the season.

The Eagles took first place as a team in the men’s division at the Doug Watts Distance Gala in Edinboro, PA.

AU’s women placed second at the same race.

Ashland’s next race will be at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Oct. 17 in Wilmington, Ohio.
