AU bids to host Browns training camp

Ashland University announced on Sept. 23 that it has submitted to be a candidate to host the Cleveland Browns summer training camp.

The Browns organization has not ruled out the possibility of maintaining its current training camp location in Berea, Ohio, but they have sent out requests to other sites in northern and central Ohio.

AU Interim Athletic Director Al King said he was contacted by the Browns over the summer to discuss the matter, and he believes that AU’s five-year-old Dwight Schar Athletic Complex would be up to the task of hosting an NFL team.

“We’re honored and it’s exciting,” King said. “Now, what they want and what they’re looking for, that’s what we’re going to figure out.”

Other sites that have submitted bids include Columbus’ Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio Dominican as well as the University of Akron.
